Tibet Permit, Chinese Visa & Passport Information for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
Information about your Chinese Visa, Tibet Travel Permit, and your Passport for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
We have many inquiries regarding the Passport, Chinese Visa, & Tibet Permit. Therefore, we want to make it clear that it is our responsibility and keep you up to date with status. Here is the workflow of how we handle :
Tibet Travel Permit and Chinese Visa Process
Chinese Visa / Tibet Permit
-
The Chinese visa is a group Visa paper based, i.e. you will not have a Chinese Visa stamp on your passport but an official group paper Visa with list of all travelers. This is special Chinese Visa just to visit Mount Kailash. Everyone is required to have a group Visa and must be enter to China in a group.
-
First of all we need your passport copies by email to apply for Tibet Travel Permit (required by Chinese government).
-
We will get Tibet permit around 10-15 days before your departure date. After that we need your original passport for Group Visa processing:
a. India Passport Holder: You have to send your original passport to our Delhi office 07 Working days before the travel date.
b. Non-India Passport Holder: You have to arrive to Kathmandu 03 working days before the trip to Kathmandu to hand over the passport to our Kathmandu office.
-
After you get group Chinese Visa, you will be able to collect the passport from our office.
-
Therefore, since it takes time, we suggest our Yatris to book as early as possible, so that your yatra can be begin in your desired departure date.

Indian National need Passport OR Voter ID Card. Therefore, even if you do not have passport you can use Voter ID card for entry. For Foreigners, they can get their Nepali Visa upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport.
I already have Chinese Visa stamped in my passport, do I need Visa again?
If you plan to enter Tibet from Nepal, you must get your Tibet group visa from the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu. Whether you already have a Chinese visa or not, a Tibet group visa is compulsory for all tourists entering Tibet from Nepal.
Tibet Travel Bureau (TTB) & CISPC
We are an authorized agent of China, India Pilgrimage Service Center (CIPSC)
-
CIPSC (China Indian Pilgrims’ Service Center) has a monopoly over the rights to handle travel arrangements & fix rates for the Indian pilgrims in Tibet side.
-
CIPSC can change the rates of the trip without any prior notice because of the international petroleum price fluctuation, US dollar exchange rates, the cost of domestic labor and rising commodity prices.
-
All arrangements within Tibet are solely at the discretion of the China Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB) & for Indian nationals, China India Pilgrim Service Center (CIPSC), both are government organizations, and we have no control over the quality of vehicles or facilities.
- TTB can deny permit or even stop giving permits from time to time. We have seen this in the past.
What are alternatives if Tibet Permit is denied / Tibet travel is restricted?
Sometimes we get late news from Tibet authorities that Tibet entry is not allowed from certain dates. In such case the travelers who has already booked with us must change their departure date after that blocked date.
Is there any ban on issue visa to Kailash mansarovar right now
Due to the Saga Dawa festival and the horse year ( a holy year to visit Kailash Mansarovar area for local Tibetans ) reason being, the Tibet Travel Permits are not being issued to foreign nationals till 10th August 2014. But, Indian citizen can travel Kailash Mansarovar without restriction.
Is there is any limit for Nos of VISAs being issued to Indian National for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
Is there any ban on issue visa to Kailash mansarovar right now
Recently we have got official news from our Tibetan counterpart that for Indian Nationals Chinese Government has decided to do a lottery system until July 15, 2014. This will allow only 50 persons per day entry to Tibet. Therefore, we are now recommending travelers to plan their Kailash tour during August.
Our party of 2 NRIs is trying to join your August 12 tour of Mt. Kailash. Are we likely to be impacted by the lottery system?
Since your booking is for 12th August, your batch will not be affected.
Are there 3 or more NRIs on the August 12 tour of Mt. Kailash? Apparently, this is a requirement. Me and my wife count as 2 NRIs. I hope there is at least one other NRI. Thanks
Which is the earliest date we can expect for normal issue of visas to Indian pilgrims entering from Nepal?
Aug 02 Kathmandu Arrival is earliest date available but you must book before 20 days to allow enough time for Tibet permit and Chinese Visa processing.
Apart from tour cost what will be the total cost in Tibet to pay for Sherpas and to engage pony for Parikrama? How much chinese Yuans one must carry for this expenditure?
The cost is around 22000 INR which you have to pay yourself directly to the Chinese Guide. The package doesn’t include the price of horse (pony) ride. It is suggested to carry minimum CNY (Chinese Yuan) 3,000 extra money (around INR 27,000) for any emergency. We will provide Sherpas and guide included in the Kailash Tour Package.
